چکیده

The formalization of patterns is a basic theoretical problem of workflow. Based on the WfMS’s concepts and the characteristics of workflow, we present some new concepts to help modelling patterns. Moreover, Logic is the control semantics of patterns and is stable and general, and to formalize patterns, we abstract logic from workflow and discuss how to model logic of patterns. With comparing and analyzing patterns’ logic, we specify patterns with the classical P/T nets without additional elements. Based on our method, the number of patterns is reduced and the specification of patterns is simplified significantly. Furthermore, a algebra method with synchronic distance is also presented to specify patterns. Accordingly, the patterns are also described by synchronic distance based on the P/T nets specification.

Description of Workflow Patterns Based on P/T Nets

The theoretical foundation of workflow has become a hot problem. And, Petri nets is famous for the feature of describing the concurrent semantics with rich analysis techniques(CY.Yuan, 1998). Therefore, Petri nets is an ideal modelling tool of workflow process(WfMC, 1995). In (Aalst, 1998; Aalst et al., 2000; Aalst, 2002), Aalst presents four special kinds of transitions, four triggers and twen...

Closing the Semantic Gaps in Topic Maps and OWL Ontologies with Modelling Workflow Patterns

The existing semantic gaps in ontologies are the reason why the challenges in interoperability and integrations tasks within the Semantic Web are often missed. It is due to the fact, that each ontology inherently implies a set of different model types. We argue that an ontology has to disclose the modelling method which intentionally defines the model type used in an application. This paper pro...

Designing a Workflow System Using Coloured Petri Nets

Traditional workflow systems focus on providing support for the control-flow perspective of a business process, with other aspects such as data management and work distribution receiving markedly less attention. A guide to desirable workflow characteristics is provided by the well-known workflow patterns which are derived from a comprehensive survey of contemporary tools and modelling formalism...

Supporting Geotechnical Design with Petri-Net-Based Process Patterns

The paper deals with process patterns based on Coloured Petri-Nets as a process model to coordinate planning in structural engineering, e.g. geotechnical engineering. Coloured Petri-Nets are mathematically well-founded, and are often used to solve problems concerning concurrency in processes in other engineering domains. The paper introduces a new method to represent geotechnical information in...

YAWL: yet another workflow language

Based on a rigorous analysis of existing workflow management systems and workflow languages, a new workflow language is proposed: YAWL (Yet Another Workflow Language). To identify the differences between the various languages, we have collected a fairly complete set of workflow patterns. Based on these patterns we have evaluated several workflow products and detected considerable differences in...
